I just checked the fender clearance on the R556 brakes on one of my bikes.
Clamped down on a Synergy rim I measure just about 60mm of clearance. You
should be fine with 54 fenders, and 58 will work - perhaps just touching. Of
course, over time, pad wear will reduce this somewhat.

I'm looking forward to seeing the photos of this mixte project!
