I just built up my commuter bike with the nexus red band 8 speed, and I did=
exactly as you describe. I got the chain tension dialed in first (using a =
surly chain tensioner on the drive side) and rolled the rear fender in the =
wheel after setting the tension and bolting the wheel. I am using schwalbe'=
s marathon tires (because my commute involves very large and manifold potho=
les and lots glass on the road) so hopefully won't need to fix a flat anyti=
me soon, because removing the tire will definitely be a process.=20

The main difference though is in using wood fenders (who doesn't like a 'wo=
odie?) and so was able to shave down a few mm at the brakes (tektro r556) a=
nd re-coat with shellac. All in all it works pretty well, and is a head-tur=
ner to boot!

Enjoy the build, and good luck!
