After you remove the old cable the housing end can shift out of alignment
with the hole in the lever body. I jam a 1.5mm allen wrench in there to line
it up again before attempting with the cable.

I also like to spin the end of a cut cable against a grinder wheel (pointing
in the direction of spin) to give the cable end a bit of a chamfer, makes it
easier to feed into that hole way in the back of the lever.
