I kind of did this last year. Got a U.S. made, 1991 Schwinn High Plains
Aluminum frameset for free because the rear der hanger had issues. Sent
the frame off to Yellow Jersey Cycles in Madison, WI for repair. Most of
the rest of the parts were acquired free or little cost. Only thing new
is the Bontrager Satellite bar, the SRAM SX-4 shifters and rear der.
Cost came in around $230. I use it as my city, knock around bike.
Mounted fenders on it. They seem to work very well on it.
